Statement on Recent Anti-Semitic Vandalism in Jackson

Jackson Township, New Jersey

The specter of bigotry and hatred has raised its head again, not in the Middle East, Europe, or Africa, but here in Jackson Township with the vandalism of a construction site with anti-semitic graffiti.

As the famous quote goes, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” We, the good people of Jackson, must take a stand against such malevolence.

Even events that happen in out-of-the-way locations can have ripple effects. If we silently allow this in Jackson, it could spread throughout Ocean County, New Jersey, and the nation.

Just recently, I condemned the anti-semitic remarks made during a graduation speech in New York, and I do so again about what has happened in Jackson.

This is a vigil that we all must keep. We must not give any support to, or by silence ignore, this destructive monster. I ask each of us to pledge our support to eradicate this evil wherever it is found.
